In her twelfth book of poetry, Marguerite Guzmán Bouvard once again brings us troubling news: of war and famine and refugees, of the pandemic and climate change. But she also celebrates people whose words and acts counter that news, and points us to "quiet places far/ from the newspapers' front pages," where nature is talking to us, through trees and wind and light. Shades of Meaning is a welcome and necessary "lamp to guide us through dark times," with kindness, understanding, and grace.
