—Martha Collins Marguerite Guzmán Bouvard’s Shades of Meaning bestows lessons on healing and what we have forgotten about being human, like love and caring and deep gratitude for others and ourselves. She continually searches for answers and truths to past oppression and ideology as in the Poem, “Histories We Carry", whereas, “they guide their horses’ / bridles with one hand and use / the other to pull apart a man / they arrested by a rope tied / around his hands evoking / a long history of slavery.”
